By the Numbers: Week 5 Trousdale Co. host Westmoreland. For a Huge Region Battle!

They have wins over 4A Macon Co., Region Foe Jackson Co., and last week over 3A Whites Creek. Their loss was to 4A Power Livingston Academy. For the year Westmoreland is scoring 27.3 PPG while giving up 14.8 PPG. Currently the Eagles’ scheduled opponents have a 23-15 record on the year which a 61% win rate.
Trousdale Co. 2019 Season Review: The Yellow Jackets are sitting at 2-1 overall with a 0-1 record in the Region. Non Region wins against Friendship Christian and Gordonsville last week and a W3 Region loss to Watertown. Trousdale County is scoring 25.3 PPG and have established a dominate Defensegiving up 5.3 PPG with 2 shutouts and produced 2 pick 6s in last Fridays game. The Total combine Record of the Yellow Jacket Opponents is 18-17 which is a 51% win rate.
Common Opponents: Outside of region play, the 2 schools also share the joy of playing Macon Co. Westmoreland played the Macon Co. Tigers in W2 and won 21-11. Trousdale Co. will face the Tigers next week.
Rankings: Using the Sonny Moore Computer Power Rankings following W4, Westmoreland is sitting at 153, which puts them in 11th for 2A. Their schedule has an average ranking in this poll of 186.9. MaxPreps has Westmoreland ranked 13th in 2A, while the AP poll doesn’t show them in their Top 10. Trousdale Co. showed up as 77th this week in Sonny’s Power Poll, which is the 4th best team in 2A. Teams on the Jacket calendar average a rank of 202.8 in Sonny’s Poll. The MaxPreps poll left Trousdale Co. in 4th for this week. In the AP poll, the Jackets rose 1 spot up to 6th in 2A.
Match-Up History: When I hear of this match-up I feel like the two have played more than they actually have. My records show this Friday will be 20th meeting. I know for several years, the 2 schools have faced off in preseason match-ups which kept the fire burning but a consistent scheduled game didn’t reappear until 2015. Overall I show Trousdale Co. leading the series 12-7 and winning the last 9 match-ups. Since the 2 were placed in the same Region in 2015, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the Eagles 113-13 in 4 games with 2 shutouts. Last year on the Creekbank resulted in a 37-0 victory over a very young Eagle team.
My Take: This could be a tough match-up for the Yellow Jackets. Westmoreland seems to be picking up steam and will be very confident going into Friday Night’s bout. The Eagles have improved every week on the scoreboard but I don’t think they have faced a Defensive Unit like the one the Jackets will put on the field this week. The Purple and Gold D core have proven they can stuff the run, so Friday night will be a battle of Strength on Strength as Westmoreland will more than likely try to establish the ground attach. If Coach Satterfield’s guys can eliminate costly mistakes, I like their chances in a close ball game. However, if the Jackets don’t come into this game focused and prepared, we may have some unhappy fans before nights end.
