I Got to Witness Why High School Football is Magical Last Night….Sam Hicks

I haven’t been to a Yellowjacket game in a long time. Not by choice, but because I’ve lived everywhere but home for the past five years. Trousdale county is one of the smallest counties in the state of Tennessee. Everyone knows everyone and everyone’s parents when to school together. When I think of Hartsville I think of one thing first… football.

Traditions that run this deep can’t be found in many places. The way it brings the town together, and the generations of Jackets that gather to see the next team with the expectation always being state championship or bust. There’s something magical about the Creek Bank when the stakes are high. Opposing teams can feel the weight of an entire town on top of them and it doesn’t let up till the job is done and the band is playing “Another One Bites the Dust”.

The so called experts picked against the small town Jackets as the high powered Meigs Co came to town with the Mr Football finalist that had carried them all year. Well as my mother used to say “these colors don’t run” and as the cold rain came down we witnessed a Yellow Jacket team that ran, not away but right at the challenge.

Come Thursday, the Keyvont Baines led Yellow Jackets face off against 13-1 Peabody for all the marbles. Riding a 6 game winning streak, the Jackets have caught fire at the right time and look up for task at hand.

Brad Waggoner and team are hungry to bring this home for Hartsville. School is closed Thursday and so is the rest of the town. Go bring home another gold ball boys.
